Indian Miniature Painting Gallery

About two hundred miniatures are on display on the first floor. The collection has steadily grown since the initial acquisition from Purushottam Mawaji in 1915 by the Trustees. Today the Museum houses one of the best collections of miniatures in the country. .

Besides the representative examples from the major centres, there are some important illustrated manuscripts such as the Laur-Chanda of 1550-70, the Anwar-i-Suhaili painted in the atelier of Akbar, a few folios from the Mewar Ramayana painted by Manohar in 1649 and
others.

The main gallery offers a bird's eye view of the development of miniature painting in India, whereas the circle displays the miniatures in thematic groups.
